You can't change it, but you can create a new account with that name (assuming it is still available), and stop using your current one.

It's an annoyance, but then again, if we could change names at will, what kind of interesting confusion would that cause?

In my case, the name I would have chosen (just plain Shaggy) was already taken by a person who posted one time in the earliest of years, then vanished. Doggone camper!! But if my name were changed, would that just cause confusion?

Can't change it or won't change it? I know over at gtaforums they allow requesting changing of your username. However, I don't know if that is because they are using Invision Power Board or not.

that is practically the same thing. they can change it in the database of course, so "won't" is the right word. i'm glad no-one gets to change name, that would be so confusing.

won't. As an admin, I have access to change user names. I have to confirm a name isn't already in use before making a change. Because it takes time and because it would be very confusing, it is something we don't do. If we allowed people t request handle changes, I'd spend my day doing that for people and not getting anything else done....

We will change a name if someoen does something goofy -- like using their email address as their handle, but otherwise, we leave them be.
