Die, Microsoft, Die!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know the reason that in MDI applications (all, not just VB) it is impossible to have one child window maximized and another restored?? Windows only lets em all be maximized, or all restored. Hello, Bill!!! We are no longer with Win3.1! Let's get with the program!!!

Such Pessimism!
C'mon guys - cheer up!
I'm sure there's a way to make one window restored and keep the other maximised if one uses the Windows API.
Remember that the Win32 API is more powerful than Bill Gates himself!!!
Don't give up - that's my advice!

Don't march, buy a military surplus tank, paint penquins on it, and drive it to Seattle.

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

hmmm, maybe. but then why hasnt anyone done that? I havent seen a single MDI App that can do this. Not even MS Office! I wonder if thats why they abandoned the MDI format in 2K?
Anyways, the tank with penguins is a good idea. Thanx! I'm ordering one now...

Hey, Spetnik...
I have a question.
You complain about MS so much, why don't you solve your problem, and run a different platform? There are many to choose from, like Unix, MAC(lol), Linux and more. Maybe if you switch, you can quite complaining. You may not be running it, but it seems like you are. And jeeze man, Windows was only made to allow computers to come into the home, and make them easier to use. It took them out of DOS. So of course there are going to be a few problems, what do you expect, a completely bug proof piece of software that runs your whole PC!?

Hey spetnik: how was the battle?
Btw, what would you think of a paintball game that used infrareds instead of paint balls?

I agree spetnik, get with the program. Since Win95 Microsoft didn't recommend the use of MDI applications any more because they are considered to be complicated to understand.
So get with the program and build SDI applications instead.

Yes, , but we still have older apps here at work. And anyways, look at VB. It used to be SDI, and they changed it to MDI (although you can still switch it back to SDI)

There are many variations of lasertag. I will explain the most sofisticated one that I know of.
There are about 15-20+ people devided into two teams. The playing area is a dark smokey area below an observation deck (for those who wish to watch for free). There are obstacles (barrels, boxes...) and low walls all around. On each end is a base for a team. Near the base is a recharger, which when u place your gun on it, it gives you more lives (unlimitted, but every 3-6 times u are shot u must recharge). Shots are limited to 160 or something. The gun is something the size of an uzi, and is connected via wires to your vest. The vest has sensors on back and front, and your gun has three sensors on it. Should you get shot on any of these sensors, your entire ves and gun vibrate and you lose a life. For the next 3 seconds, you cannot shoot and you cannot be shot (During this period a voice is telling you "Don't Shoot...Don't Shoot..."). For the three seconds after this, you cannot shoot, but you can be shot (and a voice is saying "warning...warning..."). After recharging your lives, you also cannot shoot but can be shot at for 3 seconds.
The main object of the game (which lasts 20 minutes) is to accumulate as many points as you can for you and your team. Points can be achieved by shooting members on the other team (you lose points for shooting teammates), but the main objective (which scores the most points) is to capture the other team's base). In order to do this, one player (although it is usually helpful if he has one or more teammates accompanying him) must enter the other team's base. In the ceiling of this semi-hut, there is a little hole. The attacker must shoot through the hole, at which point a revolving red light on top of the base ligts up. He must wait 15 seconds, before shooting again, at which point a siren sounds to signify that he has successfully captured the base.
You can capture the base an unlimitted amount of times throughout the game, and the team with the most points wins. Upon completion, each player is given a printout of his team's as well as his personal stats which include how many times he shot someone and how many times he got shot.
There are less sofisticated versions of this game, some without teams, and some just without a base. This is a very fun game which I have played several times, and I highly recommend it.

No it's not! Just tried it, created an MDI form and 2 child windows, which indeed are maximized all at the same time. But then I added a normal form and did this:
Code:
Private Declare Function SetParent Lib "user32" (ByVal hWndChild As Long, _
ByVal hWndNewParent As Long) As Long
Private Sub MDIForm_Load()
Load Form3
Call SetParent(Form3.hWnd, MDIForm1.hWnd)
Form3.Show
End Sub
it worked fine...

PsychoMark, I tried your solution and yes it works. But in my app I have an Toolbar and Statusbar on the MDIForm which is normally on top of any child form. But when show a form using your solution it gets on top of the bars. And if maximise that form and then restore it the bars disappear.
