Talking Nice app to easily put *custom* smilies in all your posts!

    Hi!

I made a new program, which lets you easily add custom smilies to all your posts!

It uses an online smilies list, so you don't have to download newer versions to have new smilies. They're simply uploaded and added to the list!

Here's a small screenshot of it. It can be minimized to the system tray so it rests there until you need it. You can also pass it the DOS command "-silent" so it starts out minimized. This is useful if you put a shortcut to it in your "Start Menu/Programs/Startup" folder so it runs every time your computer starts

You can download it from the reply below, the upload to my site didn't work
    (13kb - extremely fast download )

Please post here any comments about this program, if you like it or not, and suggestions for future versions! You can also post here your smilies so I can upload them.

D*mn, this ZIP file must be cursed I can't upload it anywhere

Anyway, I'm uploading it again... if the other doesn't work try this one.

And thanks for trying this, it's my first app using the WebBrowser control and it works quite well

    It works now

Cander, that only happened with the first one I uploaded. The problems started when I uploaded the new version (with the images).

    Thanks for your feedback everyone!
    Yeah I know it works
You can even change the smilies.ini to use it in other forums, eg.: if it supports HTML, you can use <img href=" in the second line of the file (beggining of the smiley code) and "> in the third one (end of the smiley code). You can also change the list file to your own, there are instructions in the original one
    Code:
    Temp = Me.GetIQ()
    'Error 9: Overflow
    'DON'T PANIC!

is the right half a Webbrowser control?

you should just have the smiles showing...then just click the one you want and have it drop to the clipboard. that would be nice
(just make the form caption state that "X smile has been copied") or something...

    Thanks everyone

Geoff, yes, it's a WebBrowser control. It's the easiest and probably the best way to load the smilies' list and display them

In fact that was one of my first ideas, but then all the smilies would have to load at the same time... this way it only loads the ones that are needed (as you click them). But if you think it would work better, I can give it a try

Well... now to the bad news

I uploaded some new smilies, and when I updated the list file, it changed name the list's path.
Obviously, my program can't keep track of this - so I would like to know if anyone knows of a good host that doesn't do weird tricks just to put a link to it in every page you upload...
Until then all I can do is give you the link to the new list so you can update your "smilies.ini" file and it keeps working.

    Anyway here it is:
    http://freepages.ugo.com/_ksi0701961...files/list.htm

Also, I'm sorry if you're offended in any way by the last 2 smilies, but... they're just there because they seemed to be useful
Don't worry, the next smilies are gonna be waaay better. They're almost ready, I'll post them tomorrow.

Remember that the list is online, so all you need to do is start up the program to see them
    Code:
    Temp = Me.GetIQ()
    'Error 9: Overflow
    'DON'T PANIC!

Sorry, Inimicum, I didn't see your reply

But if AOL messenger supports HTML in your messages or some kind of way to display images, yes, it's possible
I don't have that program so you'll have to check it for yourself.

Sorry, not working for me. I tried to start the proggy, and it says "you need to be connected to the internet.." And i have cable. Seems like the file at ugo.com is gone (it says the page has expired). Might want to incoperate the file with the program.

    Something is wrong...

    It doesn't download the list...
Is it too much if you post the source code? An exe... is... you know.... always suspicious... no offence.

I know, sorry if it doesn't work

It says you aren't connected to the internet when there's an error loading the list. The problem is that my host uses frames so the frames page is not the correct list... when I update it the page changes its address

Does anyone know of a good host that doesn't do this?

Anyway, here's the list file. All you have to do is unzip it to your program's directory and change the smilies.ini file so the list's address is file://C:\Smilies\list.htm (or whatever )

That should correct the problem but will not allow you to automatically receive updates. To do that I need an online list that works... and that means a good server or host

And since the program is very simple... if anyone else is interested on the source I might post it

Hum... I'd like one without any ads

If anyone's interested in putting it in his/her site, there's no problem. I'm not interested in creating an account somewhere just for the smilies

Anyway, here's the code. Have fun! And please no cloning

Btw, you'll need to unzip it to the folder where you installed the runtime package because I didn't include the images and other files...

I get the message that says I need to be connected to the internet. I have dial-up, but I am connected. I tried downloading the html file and changing the ini file, but it still does it. I tried changing the source code so that it wouldn't check for a connection to the internet, but I still get it. What should I change?

Weird... it only gives you that error when there's an error loading the list. Are you sure you have the correct INI file, pointing to list.htm in your hard drive?

I got it to work! All I had to do was host my own webserver, and then host the html file myself. If I had a highspeed connection, I'd host it for you, but I have dial-up and my IP always changes.

    \list.html

    Should be:

    file://C:\Programs\Smilies\list.html

    That should do it

I'll try the full path method that you suggested. I also figured out one other thing, too. The file is a .htm file, not a .html file. *hits himself in the head* Maybe I should pay more attention to detail.

If you have an always on connection, you can use http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...work/sswww.htm to host a page. It's simple, and it works good. It would be perfect for hosting 1 page.

Of course! The price is always the same, but I don't usually spend THAT much on the internet, you know? (I usually spend about 15 dollars each month and cable costs 30 )
    Code:
    Temp = Me.GetIQ()
    'Error 9: Overflow

I don't pay anything for my internet... my mom does We only pay $9.95 a month from PeoplePC. Cable's way to expensive here... there is only one provider, and they charge $40 a month! DSL is $50! I wish I could talk my parents into getting it, or I wish I could find an easy way to make money...
