How to run an exe in a web page as a link?
How do you reference an executable file and run it from a web page? I want to run my VB program as a demo software when somebody clicks on the link.

If you just link to it, they will have the option to download or run (the browser does this).

Run exe on the spot
What I'd like to do is run the exe on the spot, I mean, I want the person viewing the page to execute the program when the link is clicked. Of course, I used the "classic" html tag <a href></a> to set up the link. Downloading the file is not an option that I want at this time since there are other files needed to run it. Any other suggestions?

There aren't any other options. You just have to inform your users that they *have* to click "Run" instead of "Download"

Sit and ponder for a moment the security risks of being able to do what you are asking.

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

monte96 is right...that's exactly why browsers don't automagically run whatever they're given.
Good idea, JoshT...F.A.Q.'s are Fun And Quality!

There is an activex component to do this - it's used on the PC Answers cover cds...
You can only use it on a web page on a CD or private intranet (not sure how they check that but anyway...) For the security reasons mentioned above it will not work on a www site.
Have a look at: www.particle.net/intralaunch
You could easily write your own of course but you'd have to get it signed by Verisign and due to the nature of it I think you'd find it very hard to get their approval.

PC Plus use it as well - it was discussed in their latest Q&A.
