Those files get created when there is a problem with the registry. They are harmless and for the most part you can ignore/delete them.

How to prevent them.
If you want to prevent them from being generated, do the following.
Start, Control Panel, Internet Options. Then Disable Script Debugging to turn off the function which generates these files.
BTW: ff*.ff? files are due to MS FindFast, and can be prevented by getting rid of FindFast, which gets started when Windows is initially loaded (This happens after you install MS Office). Run msconfig and uncheck FindFast after clicking on Startup Tab.
