    Question MySQL login

    i have installed MySQL version 5.0.51 community edition
    & i have installed via .msi file

    but while logging in through MySQL client, it asks only for the pass word but not for the user id

    kindly advise me
    (1) i would like to eliminate user root & create a user of my own as a whole & sole owner of the server as par with user root

    I don't know if you can delete the root user, but even if you could you would need to be logged in as root to create a new user. you should read this, either way.
