VB6 is very old (it was released in 1998), and was the end of "Classic" VB.
You can get the latest version of VB for free from www.microsoft.com/Express
It is a bit different from VB6 so could take a while for you to learn, but due to the large amount of extra features built-in you should save lots of time after the initial learning phase.

What code were you using?

Thanks for your advice. I have downloaded the VB 2008
as you say it will be some time before I understand it but
I will keep trying.
Once again thanks........... Phlippy

VB2010 (Visual Studio 2010) is out too, you might want to give that a go. But expect that it is much more resource (cpu/memory) heavy than the VB6, it wont work as fast.

Thanks Steve Jobs
I think VB2010 is too expensive for me I am just an amater
but I enjoy programming.

Re: Very Old VB6
All Express editions are free (at least from what I've ran accross). So you can get the entire Visual Studio 2010 Express (not just VB) for free. You can get MS SQL Server 2008R2 Express for free too.
