execute a file

on my intrenet site i want the user to click on say word, and it should open microsoft word.

what i intend to do is for all the users in the company, load the intrenet site at start up , and from there they can open the files that are required, so they no longer have short cuts on there computer.
any suggestions

i do not want it to open inside the intrenet web, but just like double clicking on the file in windows explorer.

i have had a look at some threads, and they seem to be pointing at another thread, which no longer exists.

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Um... surely you see the potential security hole there right?

I'm fairly certain (at least I hope not) that you can't do that from a web page.
