    VBForums connection issue

Something strange has been going on at work posting here at VBForums for several months. Early in the week I can get on fine. Starting around Wednesday I start getting these messages below and by Thursday I can’t get on at all until the following Monday.

    Network Error (tcp_error)
A communication error occurred: "Connection refused"
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team.”

I doubt it’s this site because I can always get on from home. I just wondered if anyone can think of what might be going on. I’ve looked up the error and tried things like ipconfig /flush etc. I also deleted all the cookies and things like that. Rebooting doesn’t help either. I hate not being to get on from work. Some others at work have the issue and some don’t.

I contacted our communications group and all I was told is VBForums is busy. I think something is bounced or something along those lines over the weekend because on Monday I’m back in (until Wednesday).

    Any thoughts?

    Re: VBForums connection issue

If you are experiencing it during the day, then yeah, that makes sense... that's when it's the busiest around here... by the time yiou get home, the east coast is home, the central TZ is heading home, so traffic has slumped off by that time. I've seen this happen over the years.... not just in the last few months. Any site as popular as this is going to have its issues from time to time, and it just so happens that he peak use time comes during the US daytime work hours.

Communications gave me a proxy server and port number to hardcode in IE as a workaround so I don’t have a problem now. We don’t know what makes getting to VBForums have this issue. There is no other site I’m aware where this occurs. It’s been passed up the chain to be looked at.

I think this might be better served in Forum Feedback so I'm moving it over.

    JPnyc might have some insight.

As stated above by techgnome, traffic might be problem..! Me too have faced the same problem..
We both are in different places... When, it is daytime here, there will be no one in this forum... But, when I go for sleeping,(ie. right now it is 10.22 PM) almost all users are online...

    Re: VBForums connection issue

I had almost the same problem. Except that I had "connection timmed out", and something wrong with "tracert vbforum.com"... Many sites didn't work either back then, I guess it was just my stupide ISP...
I wonder what's happening when certain sites are temporarily blocked in some ISPs? Is it because of the new installation of IPv6? Or just blacklisting for no reason?

    Re: VBForums connection issue

I heard that most ISPs are starting to change into IPv6 (FFFF:FFFF:FFFF:FFFF....) because of a study that shows that we will not have enough IPv4 (255.255.255.255 for example) address after a few years. Something like that...

So, it's version 6 of IP...??? I thought, it's a single word (name of some other software)...!

    Re: VBForums connection issue

I have not responded from work because the hardcoded proxy server and port I mentioned as the fix are now failing. The new message is I'm not connected to the internet. When I that change to the defaults I can get to every one of my "typical" sites but this one fails with the error message in my first post. This post is from home...

Communications is looking at this but I'm sure it's a low priority since it's not a production issue. This all started when we went to the BuleCoat software for internet access reporting. Of our ten or so U.S. offices only Dublin Ohio has this issue. I suspect the IP address is being cached and then changes at VBForums and times out. That's just a VB programmer second guessing an experienced communications department.

Bottom line is I can get to Tek-Tips, SQLServerCentral, CodeBank, etc. all day long. I lose connectivity to VBForums, usually around Wednesday and back Monday, on a regular basis.

As a side note...once the BlueCoat software and single proxy service was set up if I sit idle at a reply text box (any site), like a quick post here, I get prompted for my login and password from the site I'm on. Whatever the issue is I think it's linked to that new event. Maybe too quick a timeout?

I'll keep the post alive but it will probably be from home.

    Re: VBForums connection issue

P.S. When I lost contact with the original proxy server I was given at first for a fix to get to here, which worked, I pinged it and it timed out.

My big question though...why is ony VBForums having this issue from work?
