Why Office 2010 won't support Windows XP 64-bit

I hadn't heard this yet. The good news is that it shouldn't impact many users though. It still feels a bit unsettling however.

    Unsettling?

I agree that it's doubtful that it'll effect many users since XP 64 is quite a bit unstable and rather buggy, at least it was last I'd tried using it. I'm actually glad to hear XP x64 isn't supported, gets more people onto Win7 (or at least Vista, though I'd hardly consider it an upgrade).
Currently using VS 2015 Enterprise on Win10 Enterprise x64.

Somehow it makes me think anything that isn't "mainstream" may be at risk in the future. This makes me wonder what sort of nasty surprises could be in store for any software you might adopt. It just feels less stable than we saw in the past, though you make a good point about XP 64.

XP x64 hasn't been that bad for a few years now. It is quite a few years old. Although, I don't use it any more. I have been using Windows 7 since the beta and I love it. Not one BSoD.

Re: Why Office 2010 won't support Windows XP 64-bit

I've gotten Win7 to BSOD a couple of times. Was my hardware though, had to clock the CPU down 1x cause gaming on Win7 was pushing the CPU too hard compared to WinXP with it clocked up so high.

Win7 itself is really, really stable.

Doesn't feel too unsettling. XPx64 seemed to be a token effort at best, and XP's support cycle is ending soon (or may have ended already?). But I guess it depends on what you've been using for the past few years.

I couldn't care less about XP 64 bit but the fact Server 2003 is not supported is a bit of a bummer as that means none of our terminal server users will be able to use it.
