    Hey,

    Have you checked the config.log?

Are there any more details in there?

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by configure, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59. Invocation command line was

    $ ./configure

    Hey penagate,

I am still getting used to the output of compile scripts, so wasn't able to help the OP in this case, and I am curious...

Where did you pull that from? What made you suggest that they install that?

    Gary

    Re: debian compile error ?!

    Experience.

A message like "C compiler cannot create executables" suggests something is broken with the host system. Usually on Linux this means packages are missing.

I then Googled to find the Debian package for gcc compilation.

On Red Hat-based systems the equivalent would be something like
    # yum install glibc-devel

When installing a Linux distro you are usually given an option to install packages required for compiling programs from source.

    Re: debian compile error ?!

Ah, I see what you mean.

I run a Centos system so the gcc devel package is different to the one you posted for Debian, hence why I didn't click.

Still getting used to Linux, it is a steep learning curve, especially when you start compiling from source.

    Thanks for the tip!!

    Gary
