I want to create a fake drive or a system folder so that it shows in Windows Explorer either like a drive or an icon like Control Panel. When the user clicks on it I will present a login form and they will go to my FTP site.
I can handle the networking stuff, I'm just not getting anywhere on putting that folder in Explorer. I have a Nikon digital camera which came with their software that does essentially what I'm looking for, that's where I got the idea, but lots of searches on Explorer manipulation through VB have been fruitless. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have no idea, but maybe you can search the registry and see if you can find out what that Nikon program added to it.
There's a tool at www.sysinternals.com regmon i believe it's called, to monitor all registry access, maybe that can help you.
Very intresting thing though :-)
