    Resolved [RESOLVED] Forum links colour

    Hi,

I have noticed that in Fire Fox sometimes the forum links change to brown instead of the normal blue.

I don't know whether it is a mistake with Fire Fox or the forum but this is really weird! This doesn't happen all the time and I can't figure out why it is happening. Has anyone else experienced this before?

    Thanks,

    Nightwalker

What version of FF? I use 2 & 3 and have never had that happen.

    Re: Forum links colour

I use version 3.0 on my laptop when it happens. I have scanned and cleared and any viruses/malware from my computer. However, it doesn't happen it the time so there is no really way to be sure what is causing the problem.

I haven't experienced this problem on any other forum nor when using any other browser (at least that I can remember).

    Re: Forum links colour

It doesn't happen for me either (Fx 3), but it seems like this is being caused by something (most likely an Add-on) modifying the CSS of the page, most likely on the fly after the page has loaded.

If you do a "View source" of our pages, you will see that the CSS is included directly (the relevant parts have " a:").

It is possible that those are all Visited Links. IDK why you would view all the forums, all the thread, and all the members. But that is one possible reason.

@NW: Do you have an ATI graphics display card?

If you have then try to switch on ClearType.
XP: Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects: "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"

    Re: Forum links colour

I have scanned my computer for any viruses and malware and removed them! However, I doubt that will solve the problem because as I said in post #1 the brown links don't occur every time I visit the forum.

    Re: Forum links colour

There can be two reasons (which already have been mentioned above) for this kind of behaviour... Addons or Graphics card issue.

    1) Check the FF addons that have been installed. Go to Tools - Add-ons - Themes and see what is currently active and what are the other options that you have?

    2) Update the drivers for the graphics card. Also give Cleartype a try....

    Edit:

    Also check this put...
    "Web Developer" extension
Tools, Web Developer, Misc, Visited links, then choose mark all as visited or mark all as unvisited. Close and restart FF. Does it change the colour.

    Re: Forum links colour

    @ koolsid,

    1. I don't think changing the video card drivers would make a difference I have no way of knowing if it will work because as I explained above this problem doesn't occur all the time.

    2. The add-ons I have installed for Fire Fox are:

    AVG Safe Search 8.0
    Firebug 1.3.2
    iMacros for Fire Fox 6.1.1.4
    Java Quick Starter 1.0
    YSlow 0.9.5b2

    Edit:

    What is "Clear Type"?

I will try and see if I can get the event to occur on my pc using both Fire Fox and another browser.

I don't have the option you are referring to in Fire Fox!

    Edit:

At the moment the links on the forum as I am seeing thm now are "Blue"! I just don't know when or if that will change. I don't even know why it is/was happening.

On my PC I have Vista Ultimate! However, on my laptop where I am encountering the problem I have Windows XP.

    Edit:

I have enabled the "ClearType" option just in case as you said in post #6!

    Re: Forum links colour

    Ok Go to tools->Options
Under the tab "Content", click on the colors button which is under "fonts and colors.

    1) What are the colors for visted and unvisited links? If they are not blue for Unvisited, change them. (You might even want to change 'visited' to blue later to check if it actually works....)
    2) Uncheck the box which says "allow pages to choose....."

It wouldn't unless the colours are wrong in the page - assuming they are right, it would prove that the problem is definitely on your computer (rather than being an intermittent bug in the forum software).

The way I see it, the most probable causes are:
    • The browser is not rendering the page properly (unlikely),
    • the CSS is being edited on the fly by one of your addons (I don't know any of your addons, but based on assumptions I doubt it).
    • somehow those links are all being visited automatically (most likely due to an addon loading them, which I suspect is the case - perhaps the AVG one?)

However, if that were the case wouldn't the error be occurring repeatedly? This problem doesn't occur all the time.

The AVG plug-in isn't causing the problem because I only installed it yesterday and I started the thread two days ago.

    Re: Forum links colour

How frequently a problem appears depends on the cause and the circumstances. Based on the number of forum users (on this site and others) who don't have the issue, it is doubtful that it is due to the forum software - but not impossible.

Eliminating one addon is good, but there are still others that could be the culprit. Unfortunately due to it being an intermittent issue, it is hard to eliminate the others.

    Re: Forum links colour

oops, I just checked and the stuff I mentioned above are extension for Fire Fox not plug-ins. The plug-ins that are installed are:

    2007 Microsoft Office System
    Adobe Acrobat
    DivX Player Netscape Plug-in
    DivX Web Player
    DNA Plug-in (Bit Torrent Plug-in)
    iTunes Application Detector
    Java Platform SE 6 U11
Java Platform SE 6 U11 Helper
    Microsoft Office 2003
    A couple Microsoft DRM plug-ins
    Mozilla Default Plug-in
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.5.5
    Shockwave for Director
    Shockwave Flash Plug-in
    Silverlight Plug-in
    Windows Genuine Advantage
Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library
    Yahoo Application State Plug-in

I can't even remember installing most of those plug-ins!

    Edit:

The problem just occurred again! I will test the forum in Fire Fox on both my pc and a virtual machine. At least I can do a fresh install of Fire Fox on the VM without having to change anything on my system.

    Edit:

Are there any programs that monitor when the plug-ins for a web browser start preforming their functions?

    Re: Forum links colour

I think I have found the culprit, "AVG Safe Search 8.0" extension. I will re-enable the other extensions and hopefully the problem won't reoccur.

    Edit:

Posted to soon! Still haven't found the cause of the problem!

It's not one single extension/plug-in causing the problem but many! I can't even be sure if it is the extensions/plug-ins causing the problem.

    Re: [RESOLVED] Forum links colour

I have disabled all the extensions and plug-ins for Fire Fox! However, it doesn't solve the problem it is still occurring. It only seems to occur after I visit those two forums:
    circleofdestruction.net/vshs/ and shfotherworld.proboards.com/index.cgi
    then return to vbforums.

    Edit:
