Msdn
My employer has not installed MSDN. Can I download MSDN for VB6 for my private use, even if my employer is not interested.

basically you can not get /buy msdn for vb6, only if you find someone with the disks, your employer should have the disks, even if he has not installed
i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case.
Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next
dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part
come back and mark your original post as resolved if your problem is fixed

Depending on the edition (Standard, Pro, etc.) and SKU (retail, OEM, etc.) VB6 and VS6 came with a one year Library-only MSDN subscription. That meant upon registration you got quarterly CD packages for one year.
The other cheap place to get this information was the Windows Platform SDKs but you really want one from 2000 at the latest and you can only order versions back to July 2002 now. At the moment the page at the link above isn't working for me though.
The PSDKs used to cost under $20 shipped to US locations. The trick is determining whether July 2002 will have the VB6 docs on it at all.
Much more recent PSDKs can be downloaded but will be useless without the ancient ones too. Makes me wonder why I didn't order 20 copies a few years ago while still available, I could probably resell at a profit.

Is it possible to put the 3 MSDN CDs onto one DVD and be able to install it from that DVD?
I have/use the July 2000 MSDN (3 CDs) with VB6 Pro but I've never made backup copies of those CDs, sure would be nice to have it on one DVD.
EDIT Never mind, I tried it and it works, copied all files from the 3 MSDN discs to a folder then burned to DVD. Just installed VB6 SP6 and the homemade MSDN DVD and help works as expected!

great way to get an answer
someone has to try these things lol
building cds from the dvd would be much harder if you wanted the install to work

It was neat watching the MSDN installer display,
Installing CD1.... CD2....CD3.. done!

Burning to DVD - great idea. Not much use if you don't have the CDs though.
