What level in VB would be expected for this job?

I obvioulsy have an idea, i regard myself as being proficient in VB6 now after learning it from these forums for about 4 years and what not, so i am an amatuer programmer but would love to work in the industry, any tips here?

I know they are looking for experience, probably what i am lacking is design models like SCRIM or the like, i have the raw coding skills but not the dsign skills would this be right?

    VB6/SQL Server Support

For the SEFT Project there is piece of work to establish a Windows share staging area to which all the data files received from external businesses will go before being moved on to different business areas. The work will involve writing a scheduled job which will move all the files from the staging area to their appropriate destinations, depending on their file name.

Preventative maintenance actions are required in the Data Capture area. These include migrating a document database from an NT Server onto an SQL Server cluster, reviewing the standard viewer to consider rationalisation and revamping existing Telephone Data Entry and VB programmes to improve performance.

To be considered for the role you will need to have a working experience of VB6 and SQL Server and ideally an Exposure to Edify Telephone Data Entry (TDE) systems. Candidates must be experienced self-starters who will quickly fit into a busy team supporting a variety of business critical SQL Server and VB6 systems.

Re: What level in VB would be expected for this job?

The thing with job postings is they are full of HR faff and can scare many programmers who are unsure of their skills. They are basically looking for a programmer who is competent with database development in VB 6.

The TDE system I don't know and I imagine you don't ether. I would try read up on it and simply tell them you are familiar with it but haven't used it. Most likely 90% of the candidates haven't heard of it ether.

So don't be afraid go apply.

There will be opportunities for another few years yet. It takes time to migrate a large code base.
