Grabbing Data from a PLC to Excel using OPC
Thanks for viewing my post.
I would like to record data from a Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC to excel.
I would need a OPC server ,correct ? Is there a way I can write my own OPC
server with Visual Basic ? Do you have any examples that you can lead me
to?
Thanks in advance,

While this can be done with some effort in VB, you might want to check out two standard products that can do this very effeciently and reliably. Kepware offers Control Logix connectivity. They also offer a toolkit called Client Ace that will give you easy OPC connectivity to VB. There is also a company called Sytech, that offers an excellent product for feeding OPC data into an Excel spreadsheet in a very reliable manor - not keeping Excel open all the time.
Find more information at www.kepware.com and www.sytech.com

Hello there,
I remember playing with creating a VB program that could do exactly what you are saying, this was years ago though. Just had a quick look at the KepWare website and there does seem to be some examples of doing this though, you can see them here.
Seem to remember that is wasn't an exactly easy thing to do, so as Roy Kok says, maybe stick with standard products that can do the job for you.
Also, a quick google threw up some possibilities.
