Thread splitting subscribtions
A few times a thread has been splitted to a new one, which has resulted into a problem: the new thread doesn't have any subscribtions. This means nobody gets notified of new replies as they come, and it is likely nobody besides the moderator who split the thread knows about the split.
So, I wonder, is it possible to make this forum to copy the subscribtions when a thread is split to a new one?

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
I would think that the original thread would still generate notices. Does it?

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
Yes, original does, but one of the reasons threads are split is that the discussion could go on in the new thread. Doing this doesn't quite work now as the subscribtions are lost.
For an example, si_the_geek split an ongoing discussion from a FAQ thread (which was a good thing to do), but only by luck did I notice this happened. It didn't help that si_the_geek replied to the thread, nobody got noticed of the new message. I know others didn't get notified either as I sent PM, and they hadn't noticed that the thread was split until my PM.

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
Yep, I apologise for that - I was writing a PM to you but was distracted (builders were replacing my shower at the time), and when I came back to it you'd already replied to the split thread.
I'm not sure of the exact timing, but I had sent Milk a PM about it (in reply to a PM that prompted the split).

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
Merri,
I found out that this is a legitimate bug in vBulletin and has been fixed in the 3.6.x versions forward.

Is there even an update planned?

They are always planning updates, but, given the number of sites that would require the update, the testing of new versions can take a while.
Even after the testing is complete, each of the sites are upgraded individually, so when that would happen here would depend on where we fell on their upgrade list.

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
Just plan on it happening sometime within a year or so. Thats usually a good rule of thumb. With the large size of this site it is usually done next to last with cg.com being last due to it using dual mysql databases.

Re: Thread splitting subscribtions
As RobDog888 stated, an upgrade is planned. The first site has been upgraded (PHPBuilder.com if you are interested) and others including VBForums are in line. As RobDog888 said, this site is big, so it tends to go later in the order. I would say that it should happen within a couple of months, worst case. If not, I'll be hounding the internal people doing the upgrades
Brad!
