[02/03] Vista can't open my vb exe?

Hi people,

Bit of a bizzare problem really, at work I have created this vb executable file and have saved the folder on a network drives for me and my colleagues to use. Now three of us are on XP and we have no problems running the exe file, however one of my colleagues is on Vista and when he tried running it Vista does not allow him to run it for security reasons.

Ive checked the intranet settings and tried everything possible, could someone offer me some help please and tell me why its not letting me open the file?

Tell him to install Windows XP I would install it back myself, but I don't feel like backing up all my Vs projects and such.

Vista has that annoying User Account Control. Or maybe his account doesn't have administrative privileges.

The UAC can alsways be turned off, not a reason to ditch Vista and go with XP (XP is no loner sold anyways).

Do you get any errors when trying to run teh app on Vista? Did you run an installation package for your app or just copy over the exe or just make a shortcut? Does your app access the registry?

Well he is an admin on his laptop but still its not letting him use the exe program, RobDog I just coped over the folder which includes an exe file and an access database. The rest of us have no problems running the exe program, its only him and its something to do with Vista not allowing him to run an exe file.

Im just trying to find way around it to be honest. Thanks again for your help guys.

Even though hes an Admin that doesnt mean anything in Vista. You need to right click it and select "Run as Administrator" then if hes a true admin no logon credientials will be needed.

By simply copying over the folder Vista knows the folder and its contents came from another computer and will usually Block it. Right click and select properties. You will see a "Unblock" button which you should click to unblock it. You really should create an installation package for the easiest and most problematic free deployment of your app.
