Writing in binary mode using a variable

So basically, my question is how do I get this accomplished?

stream.WriteByte(&H & byt6)

I want it to recognize the variable as a hex byte, in vb6 i could have done something along the lines of chr$("&H" & byt6)

What are you actually saying? You want to write a text file that contains hexadecimal byte values or you want to write byte values to a binary file? They are quite different and your description is far from clear.
