Re: WPF applications?
It wil aways depend on the code and app you are writting. I assume you are writting a 2008 3.5 winforms app?

Windows Presentation Foundation. 2008
This is why I am not really posting anymore. I have fallen behind in the newer technology. So I'm taking 6-12 months off to increase my skills instead of posting 100+ posts per day

Re: WPF applications?
I don't understand this post. WPF is a new way to create GUI applications in Windows that use Xml to organize the controls. What does this have to do with your web browser?
As far as I know, WPF applications can't run from your web browser. Silverlight can but not WPF.

Re: WPF applications?
There's a lot of new 'fields' to explore, but the way I see it, it really depends on what your interests are. For example, I like web dev more, so I've been looking at ListViews, Linq and WCF. Silverlight... perhaps soon, but not yet.
Similarly, I suppose, you could just look at the areas you really feel would be useful for you.

For Linux you'll need to see if the Mono project has support for WPF which I doubt it has just yet. By saying "in a browser" I assume you're talking about XBAP/XAML?
The code is considered more safe now than it was when ActiveX was in full bloom, as the code is now more well managed and restricted than before.

Re: WPF applications?
WPF is something that Im starting to get into as I like doing WinForms app 100% more then WebApps
Your point on so many new fields is good as I have narrowed things down for myself so I may actually be great at fewer things then have basic general knowledge of everything.
3.5 rocks!

Linux won't be adding support for WPF would have been nice though.
Channel 8 - Mono the other .NET that runs on Linux
Thats the video from channel 8 where they interview one of the Vice Presidents at Novell who is involved with Mono. And in the video he said they aren't looking at adding WPF support at the moment. Sorry not sure what time he says it but its in the first half somewhere

The keyword is moment. Sure thy will add it but guess its still too "new" for them to be hassled with adding it now.

I think its more that they still have to get everything else to the state where its nearly 100% in working order before they add more features especially stuff like WPF.

Seems like they are breaking the mold of most amature software places. They usually add all kinds of features/support without getting any of them working properly first

It is open source though, so we can't expect it to be that great

Re: WPF applications?
WPF from MSDN:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms752299.aspx
And of course, you should learn XAML too because web development > win development (hear that, Rob!!?)

Just learn everything to be safe I guess

Yea i am sort of developing my site at the moment and learning about master pages etc. Not sure when WPF would come in handy though for a simple site like my own but it sounds real interesting.

Re: WPF applications?
You can make WPF applications that run in a browser, but they only work in internet explorer and firefox and only on windows. The cross-platform web wpf-like applications are created with something called silverlight. There is no linux support for silverlight yet though.
WPF is a great replacement for windows forms, but using it to develop browser applications is sort of pointless.

Moonlight, though I would say Mac OS X support is more important than Linux support.
They have OS X support, btw

Re: WPF applications?
Yes, I agree that mac support benefits them more than linux, but I am tired of linux being shafted.
Although, I think I read somewhere that linux support will be added eventually.
