[RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
Hey guys, i have a program, called Beep.exe. all it does is makes a beep. (i made this to test it out)
and i also have a file called "autorun.inf" with this text in it:
Code:
[autorun]
open=Beep.exe
i but both those files in the same cd and burnt them. now the thing is, whenever i put that cd back into my cdrom after its been burned, it doesn't autorun my Beep.exe file, the CD just hangs there frozen. This happens to my sister's comps aswell. Im pretty sure it will happen to any other comp i put it in to. Any help?

i don't know and this may be unrelated altogether, but you didn't specify an icon. This may be required.

Re: Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
i know, i thought the same thing too when i started looking into this. but the thing is, some sites and videos on youtube have examples without it. Nvm about this topic, ill just use a USB drive and do it in there. and since usb drives dont autorun exe applications, ill put a launcher.bat file in there to launch it . thanks though for the response

i don't know. if you clicked the "beep" file on the disk did it run properly? It could have been a bad disk burn.

Re: [RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
the way i burned it was i copied and pasted the files into the blank disk, then on the left hand panel of the folder options (i am running an XP OS) i clicked "Write files and folders to disk"

Re: [RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
Beep.exe needs to be in your root of your CD. Then the system needs to have autoplay/autorun enabled. Other then those two items it should autorun for you.

Re: [RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
i was saying the disk might be faulty. This is in fact the most likely scenario based on this data "The computer hangs there frozen"
the ide bus is pretty much the only thing that totally preempts a multi-tasking OS, and i have seen this issue plenty of times where a cd or dvd drive has problems reading a disk it totally freezes the OS until it finally decides the disk can't be read.

Re: [RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
But hes burned 2 CDs and both are the same. Perhaps its an Old CD writter drive and doesnt support autorun or the exe is the problem.

Re: [RESOLVED] Autorun file wont start up my prog in the CD
My miostake, yes two files and one CD. Then your suggestion that the CD is bad or it burned bad would be the most possible reason.
