Wireless Networking
I am thinking of setting up a wireless network at home, my main computer in the basement has dsl connected to it, but I want to create a wireless network so that I can use my 2 laptops anywhere in the house. If I get a G or an N wireless router will that cover the entire house? Whats the range on one of those? Or do I need to boost the signal somehow.
Let me know your thoughts on this.

Re: Wireless Networking
Im not sure how big your house is but the linksys WRT54G routers are great. I use the open source firmware which allows you to increase their power aswell as set up a second router as a repeater. Here is a link to the firmware: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php. The firmware is easy to install and extremely flexible. If you have any more questions just ask.

Re: Wireless Networking
I'm guessing you already know that you need a higher internet connection for you to enable wireless
Depends how big your house is..Different ranges include from: G, G+, G+(MIMO), N1(MIMO)
I would image G+(MIMO) routers should be sufficient if you only want one router covering the entire house, probably the garden.
However, you could also set-up it up say 3 routers, one main router located at the basement, an access point router connected locally to it, then another access point router on your 2nd floor. Im not an expert in netwrking but i wud imagine that the G+(MIMO) would be more cost effective.

Re: Wireless Networking
My house isn't that big, its a tri-level home, I would say its about 1500 to 2000 sq ft. But what I am worried about is the levels, if I put the wireless router in the basement, how will the signal get to my bedroom. Then again I am thinking of putting the router in the kitchen where there will be less obstacles in the way of the transmission.

Re: Wireless Networking
As long as your laptop is within the range of the router then it should be ok as long as there are no other signals that can interfere with it.
I hve mine set-up so that my router is my basement but the signal reaches to my bedroom (3rd level). Signal is still good, so a router in your basement should be fine
