    Question XP default browser

Our home PC (running XP 'Pro') has four users on it
If one user changes the default webbrowser, it changes for every one
    Why?

OK I know why: because it's Microsoft

How can I maintain separate settings for each user?

Well, I'm the only one that uses my pc but if I had multiple users, settings for each should be saved separately instead of for everyone. The only thing I can think of is that the users are configured as "computer administrators" and therefore whatever changes made by them are distributed to everyone?

    Ah! That might be it.

I set them all as admin because when I installed Office 97 the spell checker couldn't find the libriaries, and setting all users to admin seemed to fix it.

    Thanks, I'll look into that

Like I have one user account, but what you can try as a tester for Limited Users is the "Set Program Acess and Defaults" part of Add/Remove Programs. This may be able to set it locally for their own user accounts.

If you go to Start>Run and enter
    Code:
    control appwiz.cpl,,3
, It should come up with a screen*.

*Works only if you have SP2 installed.

Do you have a Guest account? I set one up when I installed the OS. If so, login as guest, change something, logout, then login as you and see if the change applied to you.

Do you have it set to give each user their own desktop? If not, everyone shares the same settings for everything.

Where is that option? Windows automatically does that and I don't believe there's an option to undo that. After all, that was one of the main things that set windows apart from other OSes because they couldn't give different users different desktop settings.
