[RESOLVED] Are Icons Worth Paying For?
Hi guys,
I wanted to polish of some of my apps with some nice toolbar icons etc. Are these worth buying or can nice ones be gotten freeware.
I have seen some freeware ones but they were rubbish!

Re: Are Icons Worth Paying For?
As with anything, its value is dependent on your need.
If you need nifty looking icons to polish your apps but you don't want to pay for them, then that would mean your app would lack polish (this is not necessarily true, but it would be true if you believe it to be.)
So, the real question becomes, how badly do you want to polish your app.
As I have said many, many times, rarely will you find the words "good" and "free" in the same sentence.

Re: Are Icons Worth Paying For?
@ Hack: Im very picky when it comes to looks and the "final product" sort of polish. Ive been hunting around for free icons and nutting took my fancy. I visited www.iconshock.com and bought a lovely (and extremely large) set for $129.
Well worth it IMO. I may only be starting out but i do like to keep my apps professional, not mater how easy they are to everyone else.
Thanks for the imput Hack

btw hack, they offer one catogory for $129 but when you go to pay, for an extra $10 they will offer the whole section your looking at. So you get a huge amount more than is advertised

Re: [RESOLVED] Are Icons Worth Paying For?
here is a thought. i dont know if this is leagal or not hehe. but here is wat i did:
fine an icon that you like then hit print screen. then wat you do is past it in pant or any other image editing software. then you only take out the portion that you want. only that icon. Now go to google and search for "RealWorld" icon maker. it has a free trial period. i think its around like a month so you will have plenty of time to make your icon. so wat you do is import it and resize it. Then all you need to do is hit export and it will give you a nice .ico file with the icon that you wanted.

Thats still considered stealing and if you use it in a commercial paid app then you can get sued for even more.

Re: [RESOLVED] Are Icons Worth Paying For?
Yup it always pays to follow the rules as when you get caught its totally not worth the savings. Plus, how would you feel if someone stold your app and didnt pay for it.

Re: [RESOLVED] Are Icons Worth Paying For?
Agreed. If i ever had pirated software i always bought it if i was going to use it. Besides with all the trials now availble there is no need to go stealing software, or icons.
