MSAD 70-306 Exam / VB.NET
Has anyone taken this exam? If so, mind sharing what books you used to get ready, and how helpful they were? Thanks!

You should check out the MS books on the cert preparation guides. and also check what opics are covered in the test.

Also, Microsoft recommends a minimum of two years experience using the exam topic. Do you have that?

Thanks hack; I'd never heard that.
I've got 1 year of VB.NET, but 6+ with VB6...
I guess I'll wait a little longer...

Re: MSAD 70-306 Exam / VB.NET
All the facts and helpful guidence can be found on the ms cert site.
Once you pass a test you get your MCP id which you can use to associate that with a windows live login account (required) in order to view private data and your transcripts etc.
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mc...embersite.mspx
I think you are referring to the MCAD certification (requires 3 tests) as there is no MSAD cert.

Thanks for the info and link!
And yes, I did mean MCAD... I think I do that because "MS", as in MicroSoft, sticks in my head... I used to do it at work when I was studying for the MCSD exams; I would always say MSSD... (never took the exams though)

Re: MSAD 70-306 Exam / VB.NET
Since VS 2008 is coming out in 213 days I would plan on studying for the exams now and not waiting for more experience. You can get the experience by using some good study guides that have "classroom excersizes and hands on tutorials" etc. You dont want to wait another year to start studying as tests do get retired when new versions of VS are out for a while. Usually its now going to be a 5 year life cycle for tests. So given that. I'd expect 2003 certification tests to be on the "To be retired" list soon.
What Im doing is trying to complete and get my MCSD in 2003 as that certification will not be offered again but equilivalents will be the MCPD. Then I'll take the tests to upgrade and meet the requirements so I will get the MCPD too. Once you get a cert its good for life but may not be held as high a value once its tests are retired.

Re: MSAD 70-306 Exam / VB.NET
I was curious to see just how much time was left before it may be retired...
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mc...storetire.mspx
The Microsoft policy for exam retirement is modeled on the mainstream support timeline for technology releases.
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecyc...3040&x=11&y=11
So it looks like mainsteam supports ends on 10/14/2008 but the exams for 2003 are not even on the "to be retired" list. Also seen that support is 2 years after a sucessor is released so then that would be 2007. I think they will probably have the exames for 2003 on the to be retired list soon. Once on that list it will be retired within a standard minimum 6 months date.
So I would guestimate that 2003 exames will have some retirement date after March 31, 2008, which next phase of listings will probably be for retirements on June 30, 2008.

RobDog88: Thanks for the info! I'm going to look into getting a few books, and hopefully knock out the exam before it's no longer given...
