    Setup Help

    Hello Friends,

Recently I developed one module of Library Management Software, I have used Visual Basic 6, and developed under Windows XP

Then I create setup using Visual Basic Tools.

When I try to install this on 98 it gives alert of Overwrite existing file.

So which setup software I have to use for this problem

    Please help me.

    Thanks
    Adarsh Patel

You cannot change it. The setup is trying to copy a newer file over an older one. The OS obviously asks the user and it will be up to the user to decide.

Some files in XP are not backwards compatible to 98. You need to install service packs for the target OS for these things not to happen. It not as straight forward as few would have you believe.

It's best not to overwrite any files going back to 98 unless you are sure of what they are. Please give exact messages to get better answers for an inexact message gets an inexact answer...

Some! Try an awful lot of them. Quite a lot of applications written for XP will not run on 2000. Why are you trying to test on 98. It is abandoned. I keep one box with it because it was easy for the low level stuff.

I agree with Randem up to a point. If you wrote a commercial application for XP then tell people that that is the minimum requirement. Otherwise you face a marketing nightmare. If you wrote it for your own use and need some of the dubious advantages of 98 then just write it for 98.

    Re: Setup Help

Well, not exactly... It most apps can run on 98 thru Vista you just need to know what to install and what not to install and which version. My website is mostly dedicated to those issues. It's what I do...
