Is my memory causing this?
A couple of days ago I noticed lines on my lcd started popping up. All throughout today it’s been worse. The problem happens after boot up and after everything is loaded within the system tray. Also from time to time the computer would reboot by itself and upon switching over to another user the resolution would be changed. Also most recently a message pops up saying something about Mini061507-08.dmp where the 08 increments by one each time the comp is rebooted.
According to http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windo...y-problem.html this could be a memory problem.
I have four banks with 512 in each channel. I took out one 512, rebooted and the system ran fine. I put that one back took out the other and the system ran fine. Put them both back and the same problem persists. I’m stumped.

Re: Is my memory causing this?
I burned a bootup for Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#quick, tried running it but nothing happens. It does bootup from the dvd/cd drive and says somthing about caldera and some other junk but just ends up hanging on an A:\ prompt.
I should just scrap running this util and buy some new memory.

Re: Is my memory causing this?
so im assuming its dual channel slots on the mobo if it is the slots should be colour coded 2 one colour and 2 the other see if the ram in each pairs of slots are the same speed/brand not sure if this will help or not

Re: Is my memory causing this?
There are four slots. With the snaps color-coded. Black white then the next set of two, black white. Kind of confusing if you ask me. Is each set of two a separate channel? Where it doesn’t matter what colors the memory is in as long as one is in one bank of two and the other memory in another bank of two or does the memory have to be in the same color but separate banks?

both blacks are 1 channel and both whites are another so make sure the ones in the white are the same speed/ make, same with the ones in the black if possible see if you can borrow some ram off a friend of your and test it if it does the same thing as yours with his then its probally not the ram its somthing else if not then its probally the ram

Re: Is my memory causing this?
If you have video display problems like you describe, there is one of two problems: Your video card or your agp bus. Memory transfer errors from the processor to the display cause these errors, and that can be either of these causing the problem. Have you overclocked anything?

Lord Orwell got me thinking i wonder if its possible your video ram is faulty on your card ? im not sure if that would cause it or not .. maybe someone with a bit more experience can verify if its even a possibility ?

Re: Is my memory causing this?
that is pretty well the only thing on the card that could cause that. Anything else and it would pretty well go nuts upon load. I tell you what i think the most likely cause is: The fan on the video card is bad and the card is overheating. It is merely possible it is clogged with dirt. But a have had to replace the fans myself before.
As for more experience: I have been paid to work on computers freelance before. I have fixed stuff other people couldn't. And i have seen some really wierd crap. Static damage to a video card made graphics mode look like a tile game. everything there but rearranged. A bad motherboard fried a pin on a 9700 pro and it booted and ran but left static vertical lines about every inch.
