xp32 should go on a 64bit platform via wow64 shouldn't it? if so will the performance suffer or improve? anyone tried it?

Re: xp 32bit on 64bit architecture
I don't think you will gain anything but troubles.
Emulators in general (and WoW64 is no different) are not built for performance - rather compatibility.
Most of them are quite limited and again - WoW64 is no different.
For more information read this article from Microsoft directly.

Re: xp 32bit on 64bit architecture
If you mean you have a 64-bit based PC, and simply want to install 32-bit XP on it - go for it. 'Consumer' 64-bit processors are designed to also run in 32-bit mode, so there is no need for WoW or anything else.
I have an AMD Athlon64, and it has been running 32-bit XP very well (faster than the equivalent 32-bit Intel) for a couple of years.

WoW64 is used when running 32-bit applications on a 64-bit operating system.
