I use:
Audio files: Always WinAmp
Video Files (depends on the format): VLC, WinAmp, WMP (old - mplayer2), WMP (new), Media Player Classic, BSPlayer ( ), RealPlayer, QuickTime, PowerDVD
Download ACE or K-Lite codec pack.

VLC is the king of video players. Having said that, I don't actually like it. I use WMP 10, and sometimes BSPlayer.

Well, it's only the king because it'll play just about anything you throw at it.
Like I said, I don't like it or use it.

Re: favourite winamp skins
I would recommend you to try the Ozone DSP plugin for Winamp. I was amazed when I first installed it.
In my system, Linux sound driver is WAY better than Windows driver. So, without any plugin, XMMS gives me best sound quality.

I use BSPlayer to play RM/RMVB. It is less resource hungry than RealPlayer.

I have the one from ACE-Mega Codec Pack. It doesn't have any 'spyware'.

Re: favourite winamp skins
You need a limiter if you're going to start messing with an equaliser that much, otherwise you'll blow any speakers. That's where audio players fall down; they should not include an equaliser at all.

How can an equalizer blow a speaker?

Re: favourite winamp skins
sure but how do you get a smile from a track without an eq given that most tracks are mixed by donkeys? pehaps more expensive kit prevents overloading the speaker drivers?

Re: favourite winamp skins
It's not the drivers, it's more that when you push the signal over +0.0dB it begins to clip and the more clipping you get the more stress you place on the speakers.

Creating things in VB6 is an exercise in despair and futility.
I don't live here any more.
