Turning a Windows XP box into a USB drive
Hey there,
Does anyone know how to turn a standard Windows XP box into a USB drive you hook up to a random other box? I am not even sure if it's even possible but I am curious. I assume a USB cross cable would be required. Please note that I don't want to use some kind of network connection over USB. It really has to work like a USB drive. This is because I need to hook it up to a VMWare ESX server.

You mean you want it to behave as a giant disk drive?

You can buy cables that make both machines think that the other machine is a slave device. Then you can configure it to be a mass storage device.
Why do you want to do this? It would be simpler to setup an network fileshare.

Yeah, but seeing as the 'client' is VMWare ESX which is a very stripped down Linux kernel (the management side of it anyway), I would only be able to use NFS for file sharing. *BUT* I can't hook the laptop to the network due to regulations in the datacentre. So that rules that one out.
So basically I want a program on XP that allows me to share either all or just part of my HDD as a USB drive when another host connects to it.
