Resolved [RESOLVED] 2 CPU, 2 Monitors but 1 mouse.

Based on the title above, is it possible?

PC-A is connected to VPN so it can't access the internet or the network.

PC-B is not connected to VPN, can access the internet and can access the network.

I'm using two PC so that I can use the VPN at the same time connect to the network, copy files from the network and transfer it via flash drive to the PC with VPN.

Now, i'm having crazy idea on using a single mouse for my 2 CPU. lol. The mouse pointer will be travelling from one monitor to the other. Is it possible or is there any alternative to this?

Re: 2 CPU, 2 Monitors but 1 mouse.

You can get a KVM which you hook both systems Keyboard, Video, Mouse cables up to and then your actual Keyboard, Video, Mouse hook to it and via a switch (button or keyboard shortcut keypress) you can switch between each system with only one set of control.

I have a Linksys SVIEW04.V2 4 system KVM which allows me to hook up all 4 of my systems to a single set of keyboard, video, mouse control. I do have a multiple monitor setup but only one monitor is hooked up to the KVM.

Sweet! Shades, two cellphones, installers documents... Wow!

I get it but what I need is the opposite. Your setup is 3 monitors in a single system. What I wanted is 2 system with 2 monitors and the mouse is transferring from one system to the other. What nifty device should I use?

Well its still the same. A KVM will only work with one Video input so you will have to sacrafice one monitor as always showing a single systems monitor output. But the other can alternate between both.

See the blue/black unit to the right side of the monitors? Thats my Linksys KVM-4

Lol, yup actually I have 4 cellphones but my daughters use the other two. LOL, I left my pile of bills in the pix

Heres the spec sheet. They also make 2 system KVMs and not just 4 system.

Re: 2 CPU, 2 Monitors but 1 mouse.

Can't I use 2 systems at the same time. Meaning, I can hover my mouse from one system to another. That would be great. Well, if i'll use that KVM, a single monitor is enough right? I'll just press a switch it to view the system i wanted to. The thing is my monitor could be damaged easily if i will be switching it everytime. That's why I ended up with the crazy setup.

Re: 2 CPU, 2 Monitors but 1 mouse.

    LOL

Well the KVM is an electronic unit not like the older mechanical switches of the 90's. You can use it with just one monitor yes.

I dont think I have ever seen anything where you can have one desktop interact with a second systems desktop in the same window other then using some kind of Terminal Server or Remote Desktop Connection.

You have a VPN setup but you can specify that it not use the default gateway so your internet traffic wont go through the VPN Maybe then you can just use one system?

If you can setup a network connection between the two (second nic and a crosslink cable) then you can use remote desktop software to display the single screen desktop of one machine on one monitor of the other, which would be setup for dual screen, spanned desktop.

Yes, but you can not drag n drop between a RDC window and the desktop unless you are using the newer version of RDC which is 6.0 which can only be taken advantage of if running on Vista.

Possibly. I have no spare LAN cards but I have firewire though. Can I use the remote desktop even if the other is on VPN?

Its more of a Sharing of the clipboard. You get prompted to allow the access to the clipboard and if you accept then you can copy/paste between RDC and your desktop.

    For my 4 PC setup (2 PC on a KVM) I use a program called synergy ( http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ ).
Its really hard to setup, but once you do you can use one keyboard and mouse and use that on all machines. Its a great program, it will even sync clipboards + multi platform. What you could do is shove another network card in the PC thats connected to the VPN, that way it will be on your network (it should), plus be on the VPN at the same time.
