[RESOLVED] Email server > anti-virus scan

I am trying to decide which path to take.
We have about 30 PCs and each one has some kind of Anti-Virus protection.
I would like to install an email server.
The server will download all emails from our ISP, then scan all emails, then wait for the users to ask for their email…

What email server do you recommend?
And , which Anti-virus company?

Why? The cost of the server and one copy of Anti-Virus vs cost of 30 copies of Anti-Virus

I have setup a client with a similar scenerio because of the same reasons, costs.

Its a Small Business Server running Exchange 2003. I have the POP3 Connector pulling down the emails from the email host's boxes. The email host runs a antivirus scan, spyware scan and a physing filter. Basically cleans the incoming emails for free without the need/expense of purchasing an AV like GFI for Exchange server which is expensive and you also need to purchase CALs.

Getting AV for your server is another scenerio. You will need a Corporate version so it can "push" updates out to the workstations when they log on to the domain. McAffee is a little better IMO but a little more difficult to manage. Norton is a little easier to manage but not quite as good, again IMO.

Sure you can but are you wanting Exchange or some other brand? Exchange is also a stand alone program but still needs to be run on a Server. So you need Windows Server 2000 or 2003 and then run Exchange on that. It is a bit expensive. Exchange handles up to 750 mailboxes with the single license.

First I load w2000 or 2003 server
the I load exchange, tell exchange to receive all email accounts, it will scan all emails
Then the users will obtain their emails from the exchange via Outlook Express.
I can't use something like:http://www.emailarchitect.net/emailserver/ ?
I still need a server to run it?

Yes, the url you posted would be for Outlook Web Access (OWA).
Couldnt find the requirements for 2000/2003 but here is the one for Exchange 2007 - http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/ev...s/default.mspx
Needs Server OS software.
