error 8002801c - Error Accessing OLE Registry???

I just started getting this message on installations but if I go to the windows/system32 folder and register the files that the installation was complaining about everything is fine.

What is going on all of a sudden? It is not in MS Knowledge Base even thought these error are all over the internet reported by users.

    Anyone have any clue????

My Laptop recently crashed and I had to re-install everything. I was not getting this message prior. What happened? I am the Administrator. The only difference is that I was using a domain logon before and now I and using the regular user logon area of windows.

Yes, to no avail. I did not have to do these things before. What happened?

Another thing different... I partitioned my drive into two logical drives and installed the OS on C: and the data and rest of the system on E:

I think that doesn't matter if you have proper permissions.

My boot drive is C:, Windows drive is D: and software drive is E:. No problem.

But why does it work one way but not the other. Even though I get the error everything seems to work fine if I ignore the message. That may be because the files are already there.

Well, I guess it's time for me to check for MS Updates...

Really weird, I have a virtual machine of XP (no domain) and it doesn't do these things with the very same installs... What gives?

Althought it hasn't been updated by MS since I installed it...
