Specification examples

Guys,

I'm just starting a BIG project, I need to create a few documents so I am able to look at outsourcing development and selling a product.

For the outsourcing, I need a technical spec. Not a clue where to start with this, anybody got any good exmaples / resources ?

For the marketing, I was thinking a functional spec. "Here's what screens you'll have and what the system will do", without getting too techie.

For technical specs see the IEEE format for software specifications.

The template on the IEEE site is better, but you have to pay for that one.

A lot of people should be familiar with especially those that have done military projects.
