    Widescreen with vs.net...

I have a very frustrating problem, I have just brought a new laptop to use for development as I am currently working away form home a lot and I have brought one with 15.4" widescreen. I thought this would be good for development, unfortunately when I develop my software on a 15.4" sq monitor at work and then open the same project on my laptop it distorts the size of the forms and buttons and layout of some controls. I am using the same screen resolution on both computers, has anyone had this problem and got a solution??

    Thanks in advance

    Simon

And that is your problem - I'm sure on your wide screen your destop icons are stretched so try selection resolution that would adjust their shapes back to "square". There are other things to look after (like fonts perhaps)...

My work laptop has a 15.4" WXGA wide screen, its native resolution is 1280x800.

I don't know how you can live with an LCD that isn't at its native resolution, they are horribly blurry.

Actually, on a widescreen, the icons are not stretched at all, there are simply more columns of pixels (assuming you have selected a wide format image size).

lidds -- I have not tried a laptop with a widescreen, but I have moved projects from a widescreen desktop to normal screen laptops, and other desktops, without any issues. This makes me think that one of your systems is not using a widescreen format, or is cheating somehow to make a square format fit on a widescreen. My guess would certainly be the laptop.

Oh yes they are if "regular" (1024x768 or so) resolution is selected. Wide screen needs the wide screen resolution (perhaps 1680x1050 or so).

Yeah, I did add that "assuming" bit, though....

However, after re-reading the original post, he stated that he was using the same resolution on both, which means that he was using a square resolution on a widescreen, which certainly will stretch the icons.

Yes, hes using the same resolution on different screens, one widescreen and one square which will create the distortion.
