    Hi guys.

Hi guys, I'm xDeFiAnCe. I'm 16 years old and fairly new to visual basic programming. I'm very eager to learn! I'm trying to teach myself vb, but its beginning to get hard for me to teach myself. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on a good way to learn (i'm a visual learner!).. I'm going to stick around here and pick up as much info as possible. I plan on majoring in computer engineering in 2 years. Well, I didn't see a new members section so don't rape me for posting in this section!

    Re: Hi guys.

    Try some books/e-books.
They are good tools for self learning.
I've downloaded some free e-books from Microsoft.

I'm sorry if I can't post the link because I don't have enough time to search for it.
    Try searching for it.
It is good to start with VB2005 because of there is a free version called Expression Edition and many FREE tutorials, e-learnings, e-books, etc. from Microsoft.

    Re: Hi guys.

Yes, that is good but its 10 year old technology. You will find allot of info on VB 6 but the majority of "visual tutorials" are in the newer technology .NET which VB 2005 is. The Express edition does have several demo projects and vidoe tutorials as a weath of information is out there so fast for beginngers in VB.NET and C#.

If you are going to be going into computer engineering then it wont hurt to know VB 6 but they will probably be teaching any VB would be in VB.NET.

    Re: Hi guys.

I agree w/ Rob, VB2005 is much easier to learn than VB6.

In VB6, it took me several weeks before I understand how to develop applications using it but in VB2005 it took me just 30 minutes.

I have taught many friends how to develop applications using VB2005, most of them are beginners in VB; some took a week, some took days, but surprisingly there is someone spent only a day to learn it.

I wouldn't be so sure about it - product is very complex and very difficult to learn for beginners.
    Are you kidding?

That's because you already knew something in VB6...

    Re: Hi guys.

Yeah, I already know VB6 before I learn VB2005 but most of my 'students' didn't know how to build applications in VB even don't know any programming language but they learned the basics up to applications w/ database (this is the most common type of applications developed).

Hold your horses there. Unless you are a college student ([greedy]which entitles you to free software[/greedy] ), VS.Net 2005 costs at least $500.

And to make your programming life not so boring, and to give you a heck of a crash course, start off learning simple commands, and when thats down pat, learn to make games! Thats how I learned when I was 10. I'm 25 now, and been game designing for like 15 years now.
