    Welcome to VBForums!

    I dont think there is anywhere you can download it from - as there were no free versions.

    It is no longer available new, so you will need to get it second hand (possibly from somewhere like an auction web site). There is also a version that was avaiable with some VB6 books, so you may want to try to get that (it does not support creating executable files tho - it is just for learning).

    Now VB6 (I assume) isn't available to buy in the shops, does that make it legal to download it? Or is there some sort of cooldown period before it becomes legal?

    *Is* it unavailable, or is it just the support for it that MS have stopped? :-)

    I love helping noobs with their VB problems (probably because, as an amateur programmer, I am only slightly better at VB than them :-)) but if you SERIOUSLY want to get help for free from a community such as VBForums, you have to first have a grounding (basic knowledge) in VB6, otherwise you're way too much work to help...You've got to give a little if you want to get help from us, in other words!

    And we DON'T do your homework. If your tutor doesn't teach you enough to help you make the project without his or her help, FIND A BETTER TUTOR or try reading books on programming! We are happy to help with minor things regarding the project, but you have to understand the rest of it if you want our help to be useful.

    It is still under copyright, and therefore not legal to download. I don't know what period the copyright lasts for, but I would assume that it will outlast the usefulness of VB6 itself (such as when 64bit is required).

    It hasn't been available to buy for several years - Microsoft stopped selling it when the first version of .Net came out.

    you won't get a legal version for free though.
