    One Child Policy

I think its time for any country with a high population density to start implementing a one or two child policy. 6 billion people is too much.

    Impossible to implement.

I don't think the number of children is the problem - its the old people who just won't die.

Well its up to each country. But the general practice is financial incentives to have one, fines if you have more than two.

And strong marketing to make sure your population knows the reason for having fewer kids.

I like how you put words in my mouth btw (sarcasm).

There is no sponsorship about this; it's just a bad idea.

Cyanide pills make for better birth control.

So many problems would be solved, and so many people will live better lives if we just half the population to 3 billion.

Why do these things always get back to Bush

By the way, there is another solution, though it might seem a little counterintuitive. In general, we assume that a pair of people should produce only two offspring to keep the population level. At this rate, they are just replacing themselves. However, if women simply put off having the first child until they are 30, the population would begin to decline anyways.

Too lazy to do the math on this completely, at the moment, but assume that you start with two people, and have them produce two kids (always twins for simplicity sake, and lets not worry about male/female ratios) at age 20, versus age 25, 30, and 35. Follow that out over time, and the total population growth can do different things for different choices. Of couse, you need a death rate in there. If all these people were immortal, you'd have a geometric expansion. Furthermore, you would have to assume that the death rate is 0 prior to reproduction, or the population would go extinct.

There is a single, well-known, and simple way to reduce the average number of children per couple, as well as delaying the birth of the first child, which reduces population growth in two ways: Educate women.

Doesn't take more than that. Give women education, and career opportunities, and the population will fall. It is already in decline in pretty much all countries that have followed this policy.

Hey, lets follow your jump-to-conclusions train of thought:
    1) I support population control
    2) You assume I'm a right wing nut because from your perspective #1 is a right-wing position.
    3) From #2, you assume I'm blue-eyed blond haired.
    4) From #3, you assume I'm a Nazi and by population control I actually mean eugenics driven population control.

    Guess what??

#2 retort) I'm a liberal, tho not completely in line with the Democrats, I'm a self-described democrat. I.E., I support a reformed death penalty AND abortion within the first tri-mester. Besides population-control is actually a left-wing position. Some Right-Wing'ers want people to reproduce without bounds because God said "be fruitful and multiply" in the Bible.

#3 retort) I'm not blue eyed, blond haired. Can you guess what race I am?
    It's not caucasian.

#4 retort) I definately don't want population control to be based on race or any other inherited factor. However if your country's population density is ridiculously high and you can't support it, then its time to reduce your population so your country isn't filled with poverty.

As to number 3, I have always pronounced your name as Capsule Corpse, though I realize that is not technically correct. However, because of that, I would guess that you are of the zombie race: Gray skin, bad teeth, scraggly hair, walks funny, etc.

    Is that close?

Because I support the Death Penalty? Very creative.

Do you live in Europe? Hows that ***** of a justice system over there? I hear Italy is still paying millions of dollars housing an elderly high level Nazi officer in a resort jail, and paying for his jail-vacations.

Yah, I live in Idaho, EU, or were you asking for input from any eurpoean?

Actually, I had no real idea as to your stand on the death penalty, I simply pronounce every name in my head. Sometimes I at least have the right letters, sometimes I don't. For example, I thought it was "Si The GREEK" for a year or so, before I noticed that the R was missing, and he probably wasn't from Greece.

In your case, I just can't come up with anything for jx, hence Capsule Corpse. A pretty good name, though.

Hey, lets follow your jump-to-conclusions train of thought:
I didn't jump to anything or (for that matter) assume anything either. I was making an off remark as a comparison to what you're suggesting (and for future reference, conclusions typically don't end with a question mark).

You're the one who made a series of assumptions and then retorted yourself.

My only thought on all of this is you're trying to fix a flat tire by deflating the other 3.

You certainly aren't the only one who has accidentally added the R!

There is a strong implication from your question that I'm white eugenist.

Regardless of what race you are, as soon as our species reaches plague proportions and can no longer sustain itself, the population figures will drop dramatically.

A point we are fast approaching.

If you build vertically, you could probably do better than that.....so what? At what point should we be concerned, when the entire population of the world requires Texas and Florida, when the entire population requires the whole US, or what?
