Why is it that only documents you are never ever likely to need ever again, get a shortcut put in "Documents" on the Start menu??
and nothing usefull does??
How does my PC know?

It holds files that you double click/open from Explorer or My Computer. Also programs have the option of putting files opened from that program on that list. It also used to be that most MS products when they opened a file would put them there. I think now (ME and 2000) they changed that to be files that are opened a lot (I think more than twice)
