Source and Version Control Software
Hi,
Can anyone recommend some free software that does the same job than Visual Sourc Safe?
I'm in Beijing, and it's just about impossible to get legal English Software. Pirated Chinese versions of ANYTHING is freely available for 10 yuan (about 1.2 USD) a disk! (No Jokes!)
I installed Win Server 2003 on a new machine, and now would like to move our asp.net application into one location where I can control access, versions, etc.
From previous experience, VSS is just fine, but I got no idea where to get it. I read that it's included in VS 2003 Architect, But I only got VS Professional.

SVN is the way forward
Tortoise SVN is a good implementation.
If you are using .NET you can use the Ankh Plugin

I agree with SVN. It fixes many of the problems that exist with CVS.
EDIT: I've also heard a few reports of VSS losing random files occasionally

I've had it lose databases.
The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.
Please indent your code and use tags around it to make it easier to read.
