[serious] Application Blocks - use them?
Just getting an idea on how many people use the Patterns and practices application blocks for a talk I'm preparing.

Reason: Removed the old English plural "blocke" :-)

Re: [serious] Application Blocke - use them?
When I do use them, DAAB and the Exception Handling blocks.
You're lucky you put the [serious] tag, because the first thing I noticed was how much the title looked like 'Application bloke'...

Patterns are good they make your life easier when making OO apps. I have no idea what an application blocke is.

Re: [serious] Application Blocke - use them?
MS has written a set of classes that encompass the most common routines in specific areas. For example, when it comes to data access, the Data Access Application Blocks (DAAB) provide classes to make connections, execution, etc. easier. In addition, the classes are scaleable, which makes them worth considering.
Just like DAAB, they have application blocks for exception management and updater (for updating applications) among others.
It's just another project you add to the solution and reference.

I love the way MS makes up so many ways to just cut and paste things so that all the programmers become ignorant and dependant on MS products. Stop messing about and write c0d in notepad and build it from the command prompt. Like real c0ders
I don't live here any more.

Especially with code snippets in VS 2005, it's one of the first things that came to my mind: n00b c0dder.
