Excel: limit to range names?

Hi,

Is there a limit to the number of ranges in Excel that can have user-defined names? (That is, names I would give to cells/ranges by selecting them and then entering the name in the Name Box).

I am creating a spreadsheet that may end up with many hundreds of named ranges and I want to find out if there is a limit before I go ahead and try to create this many named ranges.

I know that you can select a maximum of 2048 ranges.

I do not see any other range limitation in the excel specification en limits help file
