Re: What do you think of my Sister's Resume??? Please Help!
She is trying to get a job in software development.
Personally, I think it is nice but she should emphasize her computer skills even more and talk about what she can do. For example she's learned OOP, which is not on here, she can write stored procedures which is not clearly explained.
The resume is 2 pages long. I've always been told that it should be no more than 1 page especially with less than 5 years experience.
I think she needs to reduce or eliminate the importance placed on her job experience. It shows she is a hard working to do these jobs and go to school, but i wonder if she should use the space to expand on her skills. I would show how the programing and other skills she has listed above were applied in her learning experiences.
In some ways i like the professionals section. At the same time, i think employers will want to largely skip that section. Puting int first makes it look strong. Putting it last is like a tag along adding additional info just for the sake of it. So i think it is in the right place but at the same time I don't.
Her resume looks better than mine when i graduated from school 6 years ago, but i just feel there is more potential here. IF not on the resume, she will definitely have to deliver in explaining more on the interview. I think this might get her an interview but she will need more to get the job.
Should we leave the resume alone and start working on her interviewing skills or should we do a bit more tweaking to the resume?
Thanks guys! She graduates in a few weeks. I need all the advice i can get. It is a hard market here.
