Using remote database for Report Server 2005

    Hi all,

I'm quite desperate as I've tried everything. Well.. I'm trying to setup a report server with a remote database... but no such luck. In my test environment I have SQL Server 2000 standard edition installed with reporting services 2005 Standard Edition. (On the same box)

The Reporting services catalog database works fine on this instance of sql server, being 2000 and all...but I cannot use any remote servers for my catalog database. (Which I need to do for our production environment.)

Whenever I try to use a remote server (2000 or 2005) then I get the error:

"The feature, "Using other editions of sql server for report data sources and / or the report server database" is not supported by this edition of reporting services

    What could be wrong?

    Thanks

This is just a guess, but the key to me is here:

The Standard edition of anything I've ever encountered wasn't worth very much. In order to get anything useful, you had to upgrade to either the Professional or the Enterprise edition.

As I said, that was just a guess, but, I think, probably a fairly good one.

If you do upgrade to the Enterprise edition, and you are able to do what you need to, would you post back and let everyone know.

I suspect you are not the only person out there with the Standard edition, and as such, probably not the only one that will encounter something like this.

Others could benefit if you discover that, in fact, it was the Standard edition that was causing the problem and not something else.

    Thanks.
