    Resolved [RESOLVED] Remove disapprove?

This is just a thought (and maybe not even a possibility in vBulletin)...

Instead of allowing people to rep negatively, is it possible to revert to using and then leaving it up to the moderators/admins to determine whether or not a negative rep is justified? With a few (not alot) of the casual perusers that come across VBF, it seems like you have a better chance of getting a negative rep because what you have to say; may not be what they want to hear.

(Side note: This doesn't pertain to any thread specifically. I've seen/heard about this happening a few times and have been on the receiving end of this in the past.)

    Re: Remove disapprove?

I have no idea if that is technically possible or not, but... there is a difference between the reasons for reporting a post and giving a 'disapprove'.

Reporting a post is there for posts which should be removed (such as insulting other members, or another AUP violation), whereas showing your disapproval just means something like 'I think that you hindered rather than helped'.

Giving mods/admins the decision of 'how bad' the hinderance was, and therefore how many negative points is (in my opinion) not a great idea - as not only do we try to see the good side of people, but it also does not take account of how others feel, and does not allow people to leave constructive criticism for the poster (to help them improve for next time).

Also, negative reps are less powerful than the positive ones, so the points reduction is small (especially from newer members). If mods/admins gave the negative points, how many would we give? I suspect we'd end up calculating the amount which would have been given using the current method.

If you think a rep you have received is not justified, we can look into it for you. This takes much less of our time than checking all negatives would.

Actually only a few negative reps are given so I don't think there is a problem. If someone does get one that they don't think they deserve they just need to contact me and I'll look into it.

    Re: Remove disapprove?

His question started because of me, relating to this thread:
    http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=383577

But I did not say anything about it because:
    1) It substracted from my total only 1 point, so no big deal, but enough to upset me (temporarly)...
    2) He's "kind of" right, I should not have mentioned I know how to do it if I don't plan to share it...
But another reason why I don't plan to share my code is because is not finished yet, I just started yesterday on it.

Anyways, no big deal, I'll survive...
I just have to be more careful what I say in the future...
Lately I feel like in a prizon, can't say this... can't say that... huh...

    Actually, it wasn't...

While your situation is an example, it's not the reason.

I've seen this happen a couple times and it's happened to me before. I was just wondering if it was feasible/reasonable. From what they told me, it makes sense the way it is. I just thought I'd throw it out.
