My first guess is that you are missing the CODEC required to view the .AVI.

Do you know what protocol is was created with?

If you are using Windows Media Player - try upgrading to the latest version - see if that helps...

You could also ZIP up the .AVI and post it here - tomorrow at work I will see if I can read it and re-write it in an easy MPEG-type format...

No, a 700Mb file will not be ok uploaded to here, you might consider going to rapidshare.de and posting it there.

I may ask you, what are you using to view the AVI ? Does it have sound ?
I use Winamp, and with AVI's it displays them upside-down... Thats an issue. Windows Media Player doesn't seem to handle them.

So, i reccomend using RealPlayer to view them, that or QucikTime.

That's great - I don't mind converting AVI's - but it's always better to fix the real problem...

Download Divx, as most videos are encoded with Divx or Xvid (which Divx can play).

Yeah divx will really put spyware in their codecs, yup, they also put in the version you have to pay for. They also put it into the DVD players that support Divx so they know which p0rn movie your watching.
And the makers of Xvid put it in theirs to, even though its free and open source, they do it just to piss people off .

Edit: The only codecs I have seen that have spyware that are on p0rn sites...I wonder where you surf?

It has changed now, but DivX used to have spyware - I learnt that first hand.

Those two are not the only free codecs, and I'm sure others have learnt the tricks that DivX originally used.

Just google for CODEC PACKS SPYWARE and you'll see that those three words, unfortunately, go together. No need for sarcasm - I was offering a valid warning...

We have a professional NLE editing desk - we would never think of downloading a codec from anywhere. That machine must stay pristine.

The VIDEO forums will tell you the horror stories...

btw - I've even downloaded WinZip shareware that hid spyware/adware garbage in it. It stinks that we are all taken advantage of so often

Thats weird, because I have never gotten spyware from them. I think they used to have this thing where you could select like yahoo toolbar ect to be included. A user that doesn't pay attention will zip right through it and download whatever. Then I think they had a thing in their installer where you could opt out of it.

Re: [RESOLVED] avi file, no video...

Not in the version I got spyware from - you weren't informed at all, and you had no option to stop it (and it wasn't something as tame as a toolbar). Even tho the EULA was longer than the typical ones from MS, there was no mention of anything like it.

Not surprisingly, spyware isn't often made obvious to you.
