Resolved [RESOLVED] Links to search results showing BLANK window

    Hi,

When I visit any oth the forums here and click any of the threads to open, they open fine. But when I search for something and try to open any of the threads found in search results it shows a blank screen. I assume it tries to open it not as a link but as an image.

Has anyone faced this peculiar problem earlier? Does anyone knows solution to this?

    (using Firefox v1.0.7 on win2000 SP4)

Is it opening in a different tab? I use Fx, and have no problems.

It looks as if your browser thinks it is an image, but just like David I don't get the issue (Fx 1.06, WinXP Pro SP2).

    Is this still happening?

If so, does it happen on other VBulletin forums too? (such as http://www.codeguru.com/forums/ )

Re: Links to search results showing BLANK window

A bit of research work and I came to following conclusions:
    1. It is misbehaving with very specific keywords.
    2. It is misbehaving with specific threads.

    e.g.
In ClassicVB Forums, Search For HeadClick, you will get a few results with my thread on the top which I posted recently. Except for this thread, all of them have problems.
When I Copy the link location and paste it in the address bar with &highlight=HeadClick removed, I can see the thread. So I assume it is something to do with search keywords highlighting.

I tried with other words, and it doesn't seem to be an issue.

No, this doesn't seem to be happening on codeguru.com, but just as I said it may be a problem with very specific words only.

I just searched for HeadClick and did not find the same issue.. I presume it is an error with your browser settings, but I have no idea what (or how to fix it).

Check your AdBlock Preferences settings. You probably have Obj-tabs checked in the Options. I couldn't see a game last week, and that fixed things for me, and also brought back all the vbf ads

Re: Links to search results showing BLANK window

I checked again, it is happening from only "Search This Forum". From elsewhere the searches are working fine.

    @dglienna
How do I check AdBlock preferences?

I followed your same steps and couldn't reproduce it using Fx 1.07.

What extensions, if any, do you have installed? Maybe one of those is acting up.

Re: Links to search results showing BLANK window

Ctrl-Shift-P brings up Preferences. Then click Add-Block Options. Only the second one should be checked. Not the first Obj-Tabs.

Re: Links to search results showing BLANK window

It's the same problem with IE also (v5.5).
So I should assume it is a problem with this thing or my system is really messed up.
Did you try the exact same thing? i.e goto Classic VB Forums> click Search This Forum > Type "HeadClick" & Enter. When the search results come, click any of them from 2nd thread onwards..

    @dglienna:
    Ctrl+Shift+P does nothing!
So I assume my Fx is gone I'll try reinstalling.

yep, they're all fine for me.. I don't understand at all - it doesn't make sense to me that both browsers are failing you.

It does nothing for me either.

Re: Links to search results showing BLANK window

    Aaahhh... caught it this time!

It's Norton Internet Security to be blamed. There's a facility to block ads, which was enabled. When I disable it, it works fine. It's still very confusing why it should do it with specific words only.

Anyway the problem is resolved and I will close the thread now.

Thank you all for all the help.
