Very interesting reading, but it wouldn't be the first time (and probably won't be the last) that Microsoft has shipped a product while working on a service pack to fix the existing bugs.

    Thanks for sharing.

Well this may be the reason that MS is targeting the release of the next version of VS, I think its called Orcas, in about a year from now.

Yes, it is Oracs and the release after that (which is already in the planning stage) is currently called Hawaii.

That would make sense since I don't believe Orcas is due out until late 2006 or early 2007.

I wonder sometimes how hard it is to fix your existing bugs BEFORE adding new "features" that break other things and cause more bugs. First you should fix. THEN you deploy/release. Not the other way round...

MVP Conferences. I got to talk to the Visual Studio development teams from MS. Did you go to Redmond or Singapore for the conferences?

With all the version control that they hyped today, it's kind of hard to believe that there were bugs left unchecked. Someone had to have known about them, if they were using their product to develop it.

The thing is that they do know about the bugs but its not cost effective to put out a completely bug free product when they can release some versions that are close and the revenue from the sale of those versions will help fund the final fixes and such. This is just business and not anything about not being able to fix bugs or know about bugs.

Re: Quality of VS 2005 questioned?

    Hiya all,

Well put it this way. teh developer seminar in Birmingham on tuesday was just short of a full blown arguement about teh but fixing policies and "hotfix" details on BixTalk and Visual Studio where Microsoft bosses where onthe backfoot all afternoon on thsi 2 hours session, and getting a bit hot under the collar.

Nevertheless, unfazed by this, I tried VS 05 (the free copy of standard edition) and I wont be buying the Enterprise edition until at least the sp1 comes out for it, or they give it away free with my MSDN membership.

Point is. Dont rush out and buy it, they werent exactly bothered about the crying and moaning of the buyers of biztalk Server and the gripes they had about it, and look how much that costs....
As the information I give is useful in its nature, consider using the RATE POST feature located on the bottom left of this post please..
