    Machine Upgrade

Ok i'm looking at upgrading my memory and my gfx card in my desktop.

I'm after a high quality card to run games such as battlefield 2 and unreal 2004 smoothly.

I'm also after putting in a gig chip of ddr (i have a 512 in there at the mo) to upgrade to 1.5gig

anyone got any recomendations of products?

    Thanks

What's the rating of your current Ram ?
    PC2100 ? PC2700? PC3200 ? PC4000 (doubt it)?
I would reccomend Corsair as they offer brilliant timings, excellent support and other gamers tend to use them
    Zeegnahtuer?

I like Buffalo and Corsair ram. And just a note, you can get a 512 stick for fairly cheap. You should just buy one of those to save you some money, add it to what you have (try to buy ram that matches what you have currently).

As for a video card, are you looking for something that will play ut2k4 and bf2 at max settings or at medium/low? How much do you want to spend on a card, and do you have a favorite chip manufacturer (ATI or nVidia)?

My [crappy] Radeon 9250 (likely the lowest grade 256mb card out there) will play ut2k4 at max, and bf2 at slightly above lowest. However, there are many cards under $200 that will get you at least medium-high settings on bf2.

I bought an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro for £50 a few months ago. It works well with all the games I have at the moment

You always get what you pay for. if you pay $1000 for the newest, and best, you'll have damn fast card that you'll be very pleased with, but you wont be able to eat for a week because it costs so much.

If you buy a card for $50, you'll have to settle with just average to low graphics settings, lower framerates, and wont really get the best out of all games.

If you really want a good card, look at PCI-Express 16x and SLI. Both technologies are considerably more expensive than AGP, but they will both come with better FPS in games.

Personally, I'm not a very serious gamer. I do have lots of games, but normally only spend no more than an hour a day (if I even play at all) on gaming, so I have a lower card because it can still do all I need it to do, and I don't mind settling for mediocre when it comes to graphics in games.

It's all about preference. Some don't see a need in having 1.5 Terabytes of hard drive space, I do (with only 10gb free too ).

LOTS of 'backups' this includes games, movies, music, and applications.

And it's not just one drive. I have:

    2 of these (RAID0)
    2 of these (RAID0).

and a 250gb lonely SATA drive that only contains Windows XP (and the Program Files directory). This drive has about 30gb free on it, but I dont count it as 'free space' since it's not really used for storage.

i recently bought the ATI Radeon X700 256MB GDDR3 video card. This thing runs everything at max settings. Even doom 3. I am using an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor at 2.0ghz and 1GB DDR PC3200 RAM.

The card cost me around 250 bucks CDN
