[RESOLVED] [Laptop] replacing a cd-rom drive
Hi,
I currently own a laptop (PB igo 2000 series, it's a piece of 'dung') of wich the cd-rom drive is broken, now I know what is wrong with and I can fix it by replacing a small switch but I'd like to replace it with a different type alltogether(writer (cd/dvd)). But I don't know much about laptop technics, are cd-rom players exchangeable? (voltage, connection and dimensions)
Thank you for your comments.

Check the power supply on the laptop. It may be able to support something that uses more power. I think that a burner uses more power than a reader, but am not sure. You should check the mfg's website to see what is compatible.

Well the Packard Bell site doesn't give me any info on exchangability. I am also not very worried about the power usage. The most important question to me is if they have a standard layout or not?

Looks like there are internal and slim drives. I couldn't find anything about a PB computer, but here is the site I looked at:

Thanks for your help, with my own investigating I've learned that there does exist some standard like slimline 1.7mm blahblah
It'll be a while before I actually order one, but I'll mark this resolved for now.
